Leland Disaster Shelter for Recovery Workers

Friday night, March 24 an E-4 tornado devastated several small communities in the Mississippi Delta, including Rolling Fork and Silver City. Already struggling with poverty, these areas are now without even the few resources they once had. Residents in the City of Leland, north of Rolling Fork, decided to organize a shelter to house recovery workers. We didn't know how we would find the workers, but we put the word out to locals and within 12 hours we had a community center ready for housing with food, cots and bedding. During hour 13, in walked two men from Grindstone Ministries, an organization who rebuilds the poorest neighborhoods after a catastrophe -- all for free. They needed a place to stay. We are housing these 30 recovery volunteers and this list will support their efforts.
